DJ Armani 'Punches' Ghana DJ Awards Organisers

DJ Amarni
Citi FM’s presenter DJ Armani has thrown verbal punches at the outcome of the 2015 edition of Ghana DJ Awards and has raised questions about some of the DJs who picked up awards at the ceremony over the weekend.According to Armani, some of the winners did not deserve the awards they won.He specifically mentioned names such as DJ Apiscololo, DJ Bretuoba, DJ Collins and DJ Breezy as some of the persons he thought didn’t deserve to win.

“Best Club MC of the Year went to DJ Apiscololo from Crisberrys. First of all, where is Crisberrys and who is DJ Apiscololo? If he says he is a DJ, how can he win Club MC of the Year, like seriously? What happened to Commotion, what happened to MC Coaches…? Best International Ghanaian DJ, DJ Bretuoba, who is he? …Best Mobile DJ of the Year, DJ Collins, you know the name Collins? …DJ Discovery of the Year, DJ Breezy, when last did he disc jockey? Best Event DJ of the Year, DJ Vyrusky; he is my guy but…(laughs) …It is not because I was nominated in this category, what event? I just want to know what event? Well this is the only reason why I do not show up for some of these events…seriously. Well let move on,” he said on his show on Citi FM Monday night. This year’s DJ Awards was held at the International Conference Centre on Saturday, February 21 with performances
from rapper Okyeame Kwame, Vybrant Faya, Miray and AK Songstress among others.

Joy FM’s DJ Black took Ghana’s Best DJ of the Year for the third time as well as the Best Male Radio DJ of the Year. Other winners included DJ Vyrusky who won Best Event DJ of the Year; DJ Mickey Darling (Peace FM), Best Highlife DJ of the Year; Fiifi Selah of Pluzz FM, Best Reggae/Dancehall DJ of the Year; DJ Justice (Stonebwoy), Best Artiste DJ of the Year; DJ Slim, Best Mixtape DJ of the Year (Ciroc Mixtape) and DJ Breezy, DJ Discovery of the Year.

DJ Collins won Best Mobile DJ of the Year while DJ Bretuoba and DJ Apiscololo of Crisberrys took home Best International Ghanaian DJ and Best Club Mc of the Year awards respectively. Joyce Blessing’s song, ‘Monko Mo Akyi’, was adjudged DJs’ Song of the Year.

But Armani was not satisfied with the outcome. He asked if organisers were just sharing the awards and wondered how Joyce Blessing’s song beat songs like ‘Tonga’ by Joey B and that of Castro and Sarkodie, among others, to win her category.

“I know some top DJs who should have won something. Mic Smith should have been in there; DJ Vision should have been in there; Nii Ayi Tagoe, yes, should have been in there; DJ Blow should have been in there. People should have been in there but then again (laughs) it happens,” he added.

Meanwhile, he commended some winners like DJ Sarpee, Best Gospel DJ of the Year, DJ Mickey Darling, Best Highlife DJ of the Year and DJ Justice (Stonebwoy), Best Artiste DJ of the Year, among others, noting that they did well within the year.
