Female Gospel Musician Gifty Osei to Become A Politician

Gifty Osei
Award winning female gospel musician, Gifty Osei, is on an adventure to become a Member of Parliament. Ghanacelebrities.com established contact with the Tufuhene of Senya Beraku traditional area, Nenyi Kwa Bentum IV, who disclosed that it is true that they have sealed talks with her to vie for the Member of Parliament (MP) seat in their constituency.

Recounting the contribution of Gifty Osei to her native land, Nenyi Kwa Bentum IV said, “If you will recollect, last 3 years during our durbar, we made her the Peace and Development Ambassador. Since that time till now, she has really done well in following up on developmental issues in the area.”

Touching on the main reason why they settled on Gifty Osei, he said: “Since anyone yearns for development and she has not disappointed us over the years with her development ambassadorial role, we thought it expedient to fall on her. We called on her and presented the proposal to her and she gladly accepted our offer but begged to discuss it with her husband.”

According to Nenyi Kwa Bentum IV, whichever political party’s slot Gifty Osei chooses to ride on to become the MP is not a worry to them. “We are presenting a human being – not a party. We don’t care which political party she belongs to or chooses to use their ticket to campaign. Whether she goes with NPP, NDC, or as independent candidate, we don’t mind.”

He also affirmed their deepest confidence in her. “Everyone has reasons for going into politics – the money, personal interest, but we have absolute confidence in her. She can do it. We know she won’t go and forget about us or turn her back to us when we call on her for help.”

The 2012 VGMA Gospel Artist of the year was surprised when Ghanacelebrities got in touch with her for inquiry into her new to be explored adventure.

“So how did you people get wind of this one too? (Laughed) she asked. Confirming, she stated, “It’s true. It’s true the chiefs and opinion leaders in my hometown called on me and suggested they and the entire community wish I become the MP of Senya Beraku Constituency.

First, I am a native of the land. Secondly, I’ve always been helping them with developmental issues. Thirdly, the area needs development badly. There are many prominent men who come from the area but they don’t use their riches and influence to help the area! The situation there is bad.”

Asked how she felt about the news and the way forward, she said, “I was happy. I’m glad I’ve been called upon by my own people to bring development to them through becoming a public servant. However, I can’t take the ultimate decision without finalizing it with my husband.

“I wouldn’t have spoken with you because I’m yet to discuss it with my husband as well as yet to pray and fast about it. As mortals, we can have plans but it’s the will of God that stands in our lives.” During the celebration of the Akomase festival from August 24 to 28, 2012, Gifty Osei was installed as the developmental queen mother of the Senya Beraku traditional area.

Her installation was performed by Nenyi Kwa Bentum IV, the Tufuhene of the Senya Beraku Traditional Area (SBTA). Touching on the reasons for her installation, Gifty explained: “I hail from Senya Beraku and I’ve never turned back on the town since I hit the music limelight.

“I’ve used my work to, as consciously as possible, project the town wherever I go, especially through my songs and most of my music videos which I shoot there.” Additionally, Gifty Osei raised funds to support an accident that happened in Senya Beraku in which 27 people died and another 27 sustained grave injuries.

Some creative arts people who have not used their influence and positions to effect positive change in the area includes: Fritz Baffour, Nkrabea Effah Dateh, Honourable Dzifa Gomashie, etc.

The big concern therefore is whether players in the showbiz industry should be happy and throw their support behind Gifty Osei to get into a political office or ignore her – since one bitten, twice shy. Whatever the case maybe, we live to see what will become of her adventure. Until then….
