Efya
Afro-eclectic singer, Efya, says she met her biological father when she was twenty-three years old.In an interview with Africa’s biggest podcast, myafricapodcast.com, the four-time Vodafone Ghana Music Awards best female vocalist said: ‘’I met him when I was twenty-three. It was pretty much me and my mum. I was ten years old and she [her mum] got married again.’’Born to Greetings From Abroad star, Nana Adjoa Awindor, Efya said that, after several years of absence, meeting her dad for the first time wasn’t eventful: ‘’My mum calls me and she is like come over and meet someone. I am like ‘okay’. I asked who that is and she said ‘okay it’s Bab’s’. I said ‘when you say Babs, do you mean my dad?’ She said, ‘yes’. My mum said my dad was kinda in town and he was trying to see me. I was like okay…’’

‘’So I went over and he was like ‘hey what’s up?’. It was really normal for me. I didn’t have any epic moment. My mum and I were even laughing over it. I was like ‘hey nice to meet you’. I wasn’t [gonna be] all daddy and everything about it. ‘’ she added.

This is the first time Efya has really gone public about her father.

The singer revealed that her dad’s long absence was due to the many businesses and other engagements in Germany: ‘’You know business and business. Lots of businesses and two kids and a wife.’’

Asked whether her father’s long absence has affected her personal life and upbringing, the Best in Me singer said that though ‘’there could have been things that I would have needed’’, and learned from him, ‘’…my mother was amazing and we had a lot of fun’’. ‘’I think that really crowded the whole part of it and I had really amazing aunties who were really successful,’’ Efya said.

With Efya’s mum re-marrying when the singer was age 10, Efya said, "I think after ten, it was okay for me because I had a step-dad… He is really awesome. He was a film director and he was one of my inspirations when I was in the University because I wanted to be like him…’’
