Rastafarian Council Meets With Blakk Rasta

The Rastafari Council, Ghana, has met with outspoken radio presenter and musician, Blakk Rasta, to discuss the issue of decriminalising the use of marijuana and his appearance before Parliament.

According to Blakk Rasta, his invitation and appearance before Parliament gave him insights on how to handle the campaign for the decriminalisation of the herb. He indicated that based on advice from his lawyer, he handled the situation which was delicate quite well.

The meeting considered the various options open for the council to pursue the decriminalisation agenda which includes petitioning Parliament or go to court to seek a legal ruling based on the medicinal and economic benefits the nation could gain from the decriminalisation.

The rastas agreed that it is essential to have the appropriate measures in place to regulate the cultivation, trade and use of the herb.
Executive Secretary of the Narcotics Board, Yaw Akrasi Sarpong, last year called for the legalisation of marijuana, basing his call on the economic and other benefits of marijuana.Currently, hair cream and other cosmetics made from marijuana are openly displayed and sold over the counter all over the country.

Present at the meeting was a cross section of rastafarians, including musicians, craftsmen and businessmen.
