The song which harps on some critical national issues and other relating topics on the state of the economy, received massive applause from some opponents of the Mahama government while others rebuked the Rapperholic star for being cynical. Ghana Actors Guild Warn UTV.

The most-viewed television station in the country at the moment, United Television (UTV) attracted nationwide interest via the showing of some popular telenovelas including the ever-famous ‘Maricruz'.

The station has for time now been promoting a new local series, ‘Abrabo,’ which is yet to start showing and features the likes of Kumawood stalwarts like Lil Win, Akrobeto, Kwaku Manu and a host of others.

In an interesting twist, 'Razz Newspaper' has intercepted a strong-worded letter written by the Ashanti Branch of the Ghana Actors Guild to the management of UTV, asking them to withdraw the showing of the commercial and the airing of the local series.

According to the letter signed by the Chairman of the Ashanti Branch, Bill Asamoah; members of the Guild who featured in the series - Kwasi Boadi (Akrobeto), Kwadwo Nkansah (Lil’Win) and Kwaku Manu amongst others, are protesting vehemently against the showing of the series on UTV because the production house responsible for the series, "Nakwadus" Productions did not shoot any series with the said actors but took fragments of already shot movies produced over the years and pieced them together to coin the series, ‘Abrabo’.

Afro-gypsy musician, Wanlov the Kubolor, says there is a disease in Ghana that is deadlier than the Ebola virus or the Cholera that is currently killing a lot of Ghanaians.

According to Wanlov, instead of wasting their time in church, Ghanaians should concentrate on how to rid themselves of the diseases he calls ‘corruption’ and ‘lies’.

“We have a very serious sickness right now in the country. Ghana is currently hard because most of us don’t care about the country, we care about church and how nice heaven will be so we don’t want to fix the problems in Ghana.”

Popular Ghanaian actor, John Dumelo, has called on Africans and the entire world to help eradicate the Ebola pandemic in West African, especially in Liberia.

The outbreak currently continues to spread in West Africa, with 142 more cases recorded, bringing a new total to 2,615 with 1,427 deaths, the World Health Organisation said on Friday.

Most of the new cases are in Liberia, where the government was delivering donated rice to a slum where 50,000 people have been sealed off from the rest of the capital in an attempt to contain the outbreak.

New treatment centres in Liberia are being overwhelmed by patients who were not previously identified. One centre with 20 beds opened its doors to 70 possibly infected people, likely coming from “shadow-zones” where people fear authorities won’t let doctors enter, the U.N health agency said.

It is quite difficult for a journalist to make a mark and maintain a successful career in Ghana but it is even more difficult when the journalist is a female working with a radio station that uses the local dialects as its main language of communication.

Adjoa Yeboah Agyei, ace female broadcast journalist and a main force in the newsroom of PEACE FM, OKAY FM, NEAT FM and UTV has exclusively told 'News-One' the trials and triumphs of her career and lamented the current perception among the media fraternity in Ghana that journalists who work with English speaking stations are of a better quality and have a higher professional aptitude than their counterparts working with stations that transmit in the local languages.

Is it true your journalists from English speaking stations look down on the rest of you who operate in the local languages?

Very true. I have experienced several instances like that. Broadcast journalists from English speaking stations generally feel the rest of us who operate in the Ghanaian languages on radio are inferior. They carry this attitude even to public functions and events.

They feel they are the real journalists who speak English and better understand the issues while the rest of us are an unprofessional bunch of illiterates and are only messing up on public radio.

And even when it is time for awards, they are mostly given to journalists from the English speaking stations although we all do the same job. But the truth is many of us who operate in the Ghanaian language are not unprofessional illiterates as they make it seem. It is only a medium of expression we have decided to communicate in.

African king of dancehall, Samini has rubbished Mzbel’s reasons for picking Shatta Wale over him. According to him, Mzbel’s opinion doesn’t matter to him.

The ‘Dagaati’ album owner and C.E.O of Samini music was responding to the ‘16 years’ hit singer’s comments she made about him at Rockstone’s office in a TV interview some few days ago on ‘let’s talk entertainment’, a hang out programme.

In the interview, Mzbel disclosed that, although she still loves Samini, she’s now a full time Shatta Walean because he’s trending now and he inspires the people on the streets- something which according to Mzbel, Samini used to do.

Michael Agbo Idibia, the father of Nigerian music superstar has passed on. He died at age 68 after his battle with prostate cancer.

It seems that the brutal teasing of boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr and his reading ability is not about to stop after he was tormented live on air during an Power 105 radio show by host DJ Charlmagne Tha God on Friday 22 August.

In this second attack on Mayweather’s literacy in a week, the first from rapper 50 Cent, the American DJ played a recording of Mayweather, 37, struggling to read a promo which was due to be played over the air.

The boxer appeared on the radio show last spring and the unedited audio clips were released a few days ago as he tried to read the same drop over and over without total success.

Suge Knight in hospital after shooting at Chris Brown party.

Death Row Records founder Suge Knight is undergoing surgery after being shot twice - once in the arm and stomach - during a nightclub party in West Hollywood.

Knight walked out of the club following the shooting, police told TMZ. He was then put in an ambulance and taken to hospital.

The 49-year-old rap mogul was one of three victims taken to LA’s Cedars Sinai Hospital after the incident at the 1OAK nightclub, TMZ reports.

Child actress Clara Benson well known as Maame Serwaa has urged Ghanaian youths to desist from illicit acts in the society.

The award-winning actress celebrating her 16th birthday at the Aphrodisiac Nite Club in Kumasi on Tuesday thanked her fans who were present at the event and asked them to refrain from drug abuse and teenage pregnancy.

“I appreciate the support from my fans. I will use this opportunity to advise the youth to stay away from drug abuse and teenage pregnancy.”

Former winner of one of Africa’s biggest reality television shows, Big Brother Africa, Uti Nwachukwu, has narrated how embarrassed he was when he first slept with a woman. He explained that the experience was not a palatable one, even though he still remembers who he had it with.

Vodafone Icons Open For Audition.

Vodafone Ghana, organisers of the Vodafone Icons reality show, has announced auditions for the 4th edition of the music show.

The music reality show, dubbed ‘Icon Remix’, will give contestants the platform to perform remixed versions of popular songs.

According to the organisers, the ‘Remix’ edition, scheduled for August 23, is driven by Vodafone’s commitment to empower young people to be creative in their quest to become music icons.
The auditions will begin in Kumasi at the Golden Tulip Hotel, and continue in Tamale on August 30 at the Gariba Lodge, and make its final stop in Accra on September 6, at the Labadi Beach Hotel.

How I Contracted HIV - Ghanaian Actress

Ghanaian actress-cum-singer Joyce Dzidzor Nartey is a 27-year-old mother of 2. Nartey, an HIV/AIDS Awareness Ambassador, has said she contracted HIV in her church 7 years ago.

Speaking on DSTV’s AfricaMagic channel, Nartey said, “I have lived with HIV/AIDS virus for seven years now. I contacted the disease in 2007. But I’m just a normal person. When people meet me and tend to find out how I’m feeling, I always tell them I’m a normal person.

Top Nigerian female singer, Tiwa Savage has hinted that she is expecting a baby nearly a year after she held her traditional wedding in Lagos and barely six months after her white wedding in Dubai.

I’m Not Afraid To Go To Liberia - Sidney

Popular Ghanaian musician, Barimah Sidney has indicated his readiness to travel to Liberia to record a music video to go along with his recently released song on Ebola.

Sidney has successfully recorded a song on Ebola with financial support from the Liberian international soccer star and politician, George Oppon Weah, who featured in the song.

The song is doing well on radio and has even been played on BBC radio and other international networks.

As per the agreement with Oppon Weah, Sidney is supposed to shoot a music video to go with the song.

Tuesday’s edition of the Daily Guide newspaper reported that Barimah Sidney has refused to travel to Liberia to shoot the music video insisting it must be shot in Ghana because of the high health risk in the country which is one of the worst affected by Ebola.

This seemed to have created a bone of contention between Sidney and the Oppon Weah Foundation.

Reacting to the newspaper publication Tuesday morning on Okay FM, Barimah Sidney said he was not afraid to go to Liberia.

Hi-life musician, now a self-professed Man of God, Ofori Amponsah, says he has no problem playing his old songs (deemed profane) although he is now leading a new life.

Ofori Amponsah's comments come after former hip-life star, Abraham Philip Akpor Kojo Kenya, popularly known as Lord Kenya cautioned radio presenters and DJs across the country against playing his hip-life songs which he describes as “ungodly”.

Lord Kenya said once he has repented from his old lifestyle, anything “worldly” should not be associated with him because he is now born again.
