Ghana Movie Awards Is A Big Joke – Juliet Ibrahim

The nominees list for this year’s edition of the annual Ghana Movie Awards was released recently and as characteristic of any other award scheme held in the country, Ghanaians are not happy with the list.

Not long ago EonlineGhana.Com reported of actor Eddie Nartey expressing his displeasure in the organizers for nominating award winning movie “Beasts Of No Nation” — citing that it was rather unfair to allow such a mulit-million dollar budget movie to compete with movies made locally.

Ghanaian actress Juliet Ibrahim has added her voice to chorus — expressing her frustrations via her social media page, the actress mocked the Ghana Movie Awards writing “my question is how many Ghanaian movies got nominated in Hollywood? #Foolishness“.

In a series of tweets, the actress wrote:

GMA is a family awards oh now family members Dey fight Award schemes hehe

Lmao funny how those who were winning fake awards last year and year before are now complaining though. To every one his turn though #jokes

Not even gonna waste my breath on this.We need to stop submitting movies & attending for dem to take us serious! My advise to all producers

— Juliet Ibrahim (@julietibrahim) December 19, 2015

If you want a way to get Idris Elba to attend your award event simply invite him and nominate him for best actor in diaspora why stress it

— Juliet Ibrahim (@julietibrahim) December 19, 2015

I know and I have proof I was ripped off an award last year That’s why I have vowed never to attend GMA til you fix this scam. Stop cheating

— Juliet Ibrahim (@julietibrahim) December 19, 2015

This is not the first time I’m having issues with Ghana movie awards! Stop this scamming! This awards is a big scam and we all know it!

— Juliet Ibrahim (@julietibrahim) December 19, 2015

We are the producers trying so hard to sell our country’s culture and image out there yet we don’t get recognized for our works. Twea #fixit

— Juliet Ibrahim (@julietibrahim) December 19, 2015

If all producers in Ghana can come together and boycott this awards this year they will understand we mean business. Unity is all we need

— Juliet Ibrahim (@julietibrahim) December 19, 2015

For those who asked why I didn’t submit any of my movies this year for GMA now you know! It’s a big joke that needs serious attention n help

— Juliet Ibrahim (@julietibrahim) December 19, 2015

When wil Ghanaians start recognizing &appreciating their own hardworking young producers and actors?is it only when we make it to Hollywood?

— Juliet Ibrahim (@julietibrahim) December 19, 2015

Other countries have several movie awards happening in a year! We only have one in Ghana that’s why GMA feel like they can mock Gh producers

— Juliet Ibrahim (@julietibrahim) December 19, 2015

Like I once said; till all Ghana celebrities/producers can come together and not attend and entertain the GMA’s the same will happen yearly
