Others Premier League USA 2-1 Ghana: John Brooks Header Silences The Black Stars.

21 year old German-American, John Brooks headed in a late winner for USA in a dramatic finale to their opening Group G game against Ghana.

And what a match it was! Despite jumping out to an 1-0 early lead, the USA fought back a vicious Ghana attack before conceding the equalizer in the 82nd minute.

Clint Dempsey cut inside defender John Boye and swept home a shot after 29 seconds to put USA ahead with the fifth fastest goal in World Cup history.

Ghana upped the tempo and equalised when Andre Ayew latched on to Asamoah Gyan's backheel to fire in a leveller.

However, half-time sub John Anthony Brooks delivered the game-winning goal on a head from a corner kick in the 82nd minute giving the United States a 2-1 victory and much needed 3 points. Not only was it Brooks' first goal for the United States, it was the first goal scored by a US substitute in a World Cup. Not bad for the 21-year old German-American.

This was the moment John Brooks became an American sporting hero. His Wikipedia page changed several times in the past few minutes.

It now reads: 'He is a God among men.' For a brief period he was 'the greatest American since Abraham Lincoln'. Anyone care to disagree?

It wasn't all good news for the US as they lost striker Jozy Altidore and center back Matt Besler to injury.

The United States faces Portugal in their next match in Group G, a matchup on Sunday in the Amazon at Manaus.

Ghana will take on powerhouse Germany on Saturday, as they look to salvage a result.
