Gospel musician Gifty Osei, who was one of the passengers aboard a Starbow flight which undertook an emergency landing at the Kotoka International Airport Tuesday says she is now scared to fly after the incident. The flight which was heading for Takoradi made an emergency landing, at the Kotoka International Airport after developing a mechanical fault mid-air.
The CEO of Starbow, James Antwi said the fault was due to "hydraulic failures" and the pilot had to make a “flapless landing”.Speaking in an interview with Myjoyonline.com, the gospel musician said
the near fatal incident has left her traumatized.
“I am so confused and scared to take any local flight to anywhere that I want to go but what I want to say is they should check the aircraft very well before they take off,” she said.
The ‘Aseda’ hit singer narrated that, the flight took off at 4:05PM and “after 15 minutes we heard the Captain announcing that he is having a fault so he can’t take us to Takoradi so he needs to turn back to Accra so everybody should fasten his or her seatbelt.”
“All of us started praying and then I don’t know what happened [but] it’s just the grace of God, the flight landed, it could not go again… so we had to stay in the flight for 15 minutes because the doors were not opening,” Gifty added.
She said there were Fire Service personnel and the Ambulances on standby when the plane landed.
Gifty said she was one of three persons – a man, a baby- who got injured.
According to her, she sat on her left leg and hit her head against the luggage compartment in the chaos that characterised the exiting of passengers from the plane. She said she had to go to the Airport Clinic for treatment after the incident.
Gifty thanked “God for how far He has brought us because it was just the mercy of God,” that there was no fatality.
While she is scared to fly, she said if it becomes very necessary for her to travel, she may have to use a different airline.
